XC Gear SPURZ Anti Vibration Footpegs
I've always been interested in aftermarket parts that reduce vibration and ultimately help with fatigue. The idea of improving "the ride" quality is a key component in products that market this way and can be found as triple clamps, bar mounts and even handlebars. More often than not the foot pegs are completely overlooked which I find crazy since it's 50% of the contact point to your dirt bike. Even more strange is the lack of options when trying to find something more than a standard peg.
A quick search narrowed down my options. Essentially the only radically different design from a conventional peg is offered by XC Gear- the SPURZ dirt bike foot peg. Their fitment covers a majority of late model KTM/Husqvarna bikes and in this case installed on a 2017 Husqvarna TE250.
The design is pretty cool, the peg platform is isolated by polymer inserts from the core of the peg. This allows for the peg to slightly move under pressure forward and back. XC Gear also offers a few different compounds that are more stiff and more forgiving in the amount of motion allowed.
After checking out the hardware and installing on the bike, I was thoroughly impressed with the quality of the parts. XC Gear is well known for their handlebar mounts and the same expectations can be found in their SPURZ pegs.
I was able to get a few months and some solid time on the pegs which did not disappoint. From the very first ride, the difference from a standard peg was extremely noticeable. I was concerned that they would take some getting used to but ended up being comfortable and natural right away. The biggest deciding factor that these pegs work great was after a 2.5 XC race. I entered it "straight off the couch" and endurance was going to be a factor. Needless to say, I think the event would've ended a little different if I were on the stock foot pegs. The SPURZ provided me with a comfortable platform and took away some of the shock in harsh conditions.
From the XC Gear site:
SPURZ Footpegs are an “out of the box”, big thinking, way to approach footpegs. Before SPURZ, footpegs were, for the most part, just a grippy surface for your feet. Some are exotic metals, others have pretty colors but they all are a grippy surface for your feet.
SPURZ are very different. They are proven to reduce fatigue, absorb vibration and provide additional cushioned travel and flexing for your feet.
The foot platform of the SPURZ is completely isolated from any “metal to metal” contact with the other parts of of the motorcycle. The engineered polymers that the foot platform is riding on compress upon impact and they allow slight “for” and “aft” movement of the feet, as well as, additional flexing.
Installing SPURZ is a positive step toward protecting your feet, ankles, knees, hips spine and neck.
