Mar 24 AXP Racing Extreme Skid Plate

Full coverage skid plates are great for a few reasons. Obviously protecting engine cases, your frame and sometimes linkage is one of those. Having a full coverage skid plate on your dirt bike really helps with getting over obstacles. Better yet, having a HDPE skid plate really improves the ability to float over rocks, log and boulders.

Since I knew going into selecting a skid plate that I wanted full coverage it already ruled out a few brands and types. Aluminum skid plates are great for motocross or maybe big ADV bikes but they can't slide on rocks or logs like a HDPE type can. This also helped me zero in on AXP and decided to give them a try.

Installing the plate was relatively simple. It takes a few tries to really figure it out, but once the hooks snap into the rear frame crossbar you really understand how well- almost exact it fits. This is due in part to their design process that includes 3D scans of the bike model. I was really pleased with the fitment and how well the bolt holes lined up in front.

This AXP Extreme Skid plate really does a great job of covering the entire bottom.

The first few rides was tight, challenging single track with plenty of logs to cross. Unlike the stock skid plate, I could now slide right over instead of hanging up on the shock linkage. It really improves the ride and obviously the entire bike is protected.

I recently ran an XC race filled with rocks and higher speed wide open conditions. There were a few goat trail sections with large rocks that you could feel bouncing off the skid plate and exhaust. While the pipe has been pinched off quite a bit by a large dent, the 8mm thick HDPE skid plate didn't skip a beat hardware and all.
