Baja Designs XL Pro AC KIT

Generally speaking, when it comes to off road riding like XC or single track Two Strokes are a favorable choice for both racers and enthusiasts. Their power and handling characteristics make it an easy decision in various conditions. Unfortunately a majority of the time these conditions are pitted deep in shaded forests, or areas where visibility is dealt with low light and dark shadows. The stock headlights on these bikes feel like and afterthought and just enough light to get you by. If you plan on doing any fast paced or technical riding at night, they aren't helpful at all and cause you to ride defensive against yourself.

In stock trim, if you own a recent model Two Stroke off road bike like a Husqvarna TE250 your stator output is fair and at least an improvement over older models in terms of watts. Unfortunately most lighting solutions available still require a modified stator that increase cost, complexity, and risk with having a custom wiring setup. It's reliability will vary from each bike simply because of who is installing/wiring it and the quality/design of the stator used.

While researching for a lighting solution there were a few things I had in mind as far as requirements. Based off previous experiences, my major concern was reliability and simplicity. The last thing you would want out in the middle of nowhere- in the dark, is for a lighting system fail or cause your bike to fail. The less parts I need to replace the less chance I could run into an issue. My other focus was obviously brightness. Having a wide pattern that also went far ahead of me was critical to being happy with the setup.

It didn't take much time to narrow down my options. Battery powered just wasn't going to cut it and several brands didn't really meet my requirements. Upon the 8 or 10 companies I checked out, Baja Designs seemed to be the only one who offered everything I wanted. Right out of the box the XL Pro light assembly screams quality. It is well built and all the wiring components have been put together with care. I was immediately impressed and wanted to install right away.

Quality is a priority for Baja Designs. Everything down to the connections is top notch. As you can see, the lenses are interchangeable with a removable face plate allowing for optional lenses to be installed (shown).

I planned on documenting the installation process to provide in this review but it ended being so incredibly easy, I wasn't able to take pictures of every step. You are basically removing the headlight mask from the stock light and replacing it with the new Baja Designs light. They include hardware, a AC DC converter, sufficient instructions and possibly some of the best customer service I've dealt with.

The Baja Designs XL Pro AC Kit installed into the stock headlight mask along with the AC DC Converter. This can only be purchased with a lighting kit.

Installation took about an hour from start to finish. You are on your own in terms of finding a good spot to mount the AC DC converter. I chose to mount behind the headlight mask using some of the provided hardware.

XL Pro AC Kit installed with the provided AC DC Converter mounted.

I was concerned with mounting to plastic tab that is no longer used after removing the stock headlight assembly, but having several rides and a 2.5 hour XC race logged it is doing just fine and proves to be well protected.

Of course, once you have the light installed you immediately want to check out the difference in pattern and brightness. It's likely if you are interested in this kit you have the stock lighting. The difference is ridiculous, there is really no comparison between the two.

Having trails behind your house makes testing instantaneous. Almost minutes after installing.

I was really happy with how powerful the light is. As you can see, the pattern is wide and doesn't group together like some others on the market. The shadows being cast should be a good indicator of how much light is being put out. All while being powered by the stock stator. Surprisingly bright!

The Baja Designs XL Pro AC Kit is a winner. If you are looking for a plug and play lighting solution for your AC powered two stroke, this kit will far exceed your expectations.

Here's some information straight from Baja Designs:

Husqvarna & Husaberg
Your stock Husaberg or Husqvarna bike was built for off-road use only, and the manufacturer didn't put a whole lot of thought into 24-hour races or night riding, either. That's Ok — your friends at Baja Designs have that all taken care of for you.

Husqvarna & Husaberg Motorcycle Lighting
We're betting you'd like to ride your bike legally on public roads and gain the ability to safely ride trails at night. Even if your Husaberg or Husqvarna came with a headlight, it probably isn't street-legal, nor is it adequate for night-time trail use. Baja Designs offers motorcycle LED lighting kits and dual sport kits that are designed specifically for your bike, so installation is a snap. Once in place, your new BD lighting kit will light up the trail so you can see every rock and terrain variation long before you hit it.
